An Garda Síochána will conduct Operation Slow Down this Friday, December 20, as part of their ongoing efforts to make the roads safer for everyone.

Speeding continues to be one of the leading causes of collisions, serious injuries and fatalities on our roads, they say.
“Despite regular reminders and enforcement efforts, we still detect hundreds of drivers exceeding speed limits every day,” An Garda Síochána in Donegal posted.

“National Slow Down Days are about more than enforcement – they’re about saving lives. By driving within the speed limit, you’re reducing the likelihood of a collision and the severity of injuries should one occur.

“We’re asking all motorists to play their part. Please check your speed before setting off and regularly during your journey. Remember, speed limits are a maximum, not a target – adjust for weather, traffic and road conditions. Take responsibility for the safety of yourself, your passengers and others on the road.

“Our message is simple: Slow down, save lives. Together, we can prevent unnecessary tragedies on our roads. Thank you for your cooperation, and remember – every day should be a 'Slow Down Day'.”
