It is that time of year again as the volunteers from Mary's Meals set off on their annual Step by Step to Feed the Next Child.

There will be a 5km walk in the Peace Park in Letterkenny on Thursday, August 8. This walk is open to all and all are invited to participate. The loop of Letterkenny Town Park is half a kilometre and people can do as many loops as they wish between the times of 12.30pm and 2.30pm. Together, people in Letterkenny can walk the walk to Knock at their own pace and in a nice, relaxed atmosphere.

Now in its 12th year, the charity walk continues to raise awareness of and funds for Mary's Meals who are presently feeding 2,429,182 children in 18 of the world’s poorest counties.

Walks will leave Malin, the Spire in Dublin, St John’s Cathedral in Kilkenny, Northern Ireland, Cavan, Longford, Limerick and the Cathedral in Thurles.

All these walks will be joined by people who will walk for a day or a half day or 10km or 5km or whatever. All clad in their distinctive Mary's Meals t-shirts and high visibility vests, their walk will cover around 200km each as they meander the roads of Ireland to receive donations so that they may continue to support some of the most vulnerable children in the world. Mary's Meals guarantees that 93% of funds raised go directable to our charitable causes.

When Step by Step to Feed the Next Child started in August 2013 it was meant to be a once-off event but as it proved to be very successful it has continued.

“We at Mary's Meals thank you for all the support over the years and for all the people who have participated in the walk over the years,” event organisers said. “It is a great sadness to know that there are still hungry children in our world, but it is also a great joy to know that there are so many walking so that the next child waiting in line for Mary's Meals will receive that warm, wholesome and nutritious cup of porridge that will make a massive difference.”
