Convoy man charged with taking vehicle and knife incident to be sentenced

The 25-year-old man who appeared at Letterkenny Circuit Court in connection with two separate incidents, is currently in custody and was brought to court by prison officers

A Convoy man who admitted to unlawfully taking a vehicle has also pleaded guilty to producing a knife during an assault of another man.

Corey O'Kane was brought before Letterkenny Circuit Court and will be sentenced on Thursday.

The 25-year-old of Milltown, Convoy, appeared in connection with two separate incidents.

O'Kane is currently in custody and was brought to court by prison officers.

Dressed in a grey tracksuit, O'Kane spoke only to tender guilty pleas.

He is charged with taking a mechanically propelled vehicle without the lawful consent of the owner or other lawful authority at Main Street, Convoy, on August 13, 2022.

A nolle prosequi could be entered in the case of another count against O'Kane, Ms Fiona Crawford, barrister for the State, told the court.

O'Kane is also charged with assault causing harm to a man at Ard Lonan, Letterkenny, on October 31, 2022.

O'Kane is charged that while committing or appearing to be about to commit an offence, namely assault, that he produced a knife.

He pleaded guilty to both offences.

Mr Peter Nolan BL, barrister for O'Kane, instructed by solicitor Mr Rory O'Brien, asked for his client to be remanded in custody until Thursday for sentencing.

The matter was adjourned by Judge John Aylmer.
