Gardaí from Letterkenny Roads Policing Unit were operating a checkpoint on Sunday night when the active mobility app alerted them to the fact that a vehicle was not insured and that the driver of the vehicle did not hold a valid driving licence.
The driver was then arrested on suspicion of drink driving and the vehicle was seized. Court proceedings will follow.
For the May Bank Holiday, the Donegal Road Safety Working Group issued an appeal to all road users, urging them to exercise heightened caution during this busy period. With road traffic surging over the weekend, the risk of accidents escalates, poses a threat to the safety of all that use the roads.
"Arrive alive this Bank Holiday Weekend," An Garda Siochana said. "Do not drive while under the influence of alcohol or drugs."
