A motorist clocked driving at 156km/h was arrested by the Letterkenny Roads Policing Unit while another drug-driver was detected

Offaly motorist caught speeding during huge Garda operation

Donegal Gardai have issued a further warning over speeding on the road after a motorist was arrested following at 156km/h detection in the early hours of Thursday.

Officers from the Letterkenny Roads Policing Unit were conducting speed checks.

A driver clocked at 156km/h was arrested. The vehicle was travelling in a 100km/h zone.

Gardai also arrested another motorist for drug-driving. The person tested positive for the presence of cocaine and cannabis.

These detections followed incidents where two motorists were clocked at 137km/h and 123km/h by the Letterkenny Roads Policing Unit on Wednesday morning.

A Garda spokesperson said: “Please drive safely and make responsible decisions when it comes to road safety.

“Making the decision to drive while under the influence of alcohol/drugs can have devastating consequences. Excess speed can kill so please slow down.”
