Deaths in Donegal, Tuesday morning, April 16, 2024

The following deaths have taken place:

- Catherine Veronica (Vonnie) Leyden (née Bonner), Drumkeen

- Joseph Doherty, Crossroads

- Susan Blaney, Milford

- Bridie Mc Brearty, Killybegs

- Mary Early, Arranmore and Wicklow

- Derek Wilkinson, Creeslough and Wicklow

- John Joe Breslin, Ardara

Joseph Doherty, Crossroads

The death has occurred of Joseph Doherty, Owenagadrash, Crossroads, Killygordon, F93 KV25.

Beloved husband of the late Dorothy, and much loved father of Martin, Margaret, Mary and the late James, cherished brother of the late Mary, Margaret, Seamus and Patsy.

Deeply regretted and sadly missed by his son, daughters, daughters in law Kate and Wendy, son in law Patrick, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, extended family and friends.

Remains reposing at the home of his daughter Margaret at Owenagadrash, Crossroads, Killygordon F93 KV25 from 2pm on Tuesday April 16. Funeral leaving from his daughter’s home on Thursday April 18 at 10.20 am for Requiem Mass in St. Patrick’s Church Crossroads, Killygordon at 11am.

Interment afterwards in the adjoining churchyard. The Requiem Mass can be viewed live via the Parish webcam at https://youtube.com/@killygordonparish

Donations in lieu of flowers, if so desired, to the Patients Comfort Fund, St. Joseph’s Community Hospital, Stranorlar, care of any family member.

Family time from 10pm until 11 am, and on the morning of the funeral. A one way system will be in operation, via Gleneely School.

Catherine Veronica (Vonnie) Leyden (née Bonner), Drumkeen

The peaceful death has occurred at the Donegal Hospice of Catherine Veronica (Vonnie) Leyden, née Bonner, Augheygault, Drumkeen.

Predeceased by her husband Terry, sister Molly, brother Kevin and sister-in-law Mary. Loving mother of sons Derek and Paul, daughter Sharon, son-in-law Derrick and daughter-in-law Rena. Devoted grandmother of Ella, Ben, Tara and Paris. Vonnie will be deeply missed by her sister Deirdre and the wider Leyden and Bonner families.

Her remains are reposing at her late residence. House private please to family and close friends at the request of the deceased.

Funeral leaving from there on Thursday April 18 at 10.30am for 11am Requiem Mass in St Patrick’s Church, Drumkeen followed by interment afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

Family flowers only please. Donations in lieu to the Donegal hospice care of any family member or Terence McClintock funeral director. 

Susan Blaney, Milford

The death has taken place of Susan Blaney, née Brown, Tirhomin, Milford. She passed away peacefully in Áras Uí Dhomhnaill Nursing Home, Milford.

Deeply regretted by her daughter May, son Ian, grandsons Declan and Damian, granddaughter-in-law Kosh, great-grandchildren Caoilainn and Niamh, sister Joan, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Predeceased by her brother Robbie and sisters Tina and Peggy.

Her remains are reposing at the residence of her grandson Declan and Kosh Alcorn, Tirhomin, Milford, F92 F857, from 6pm on Monday. Family time from 10pm until 11am and on the morning of the funeral.

Funeral service on Wednesday at 2pm in Fannett Presbyterian Church, Kerrykeel. Burial will take place afterwards in Milford Presbyterian Cemetery. Funeral service can be viewed on Patrick Sweeney Funeral Directors Facebook Page.

Bridie Mc Brearty, Killybegs

The death has occurred of Bridie Mc Brearty, 149 Church Road, Killybegs.

Sadly missed by her loving husband Denis, sons Jerry, Rodney and Colin, daughter in law Léan, grandchildren Darragh and Daithí, sisters Maura, Margaret, Sally and Winnie, brother Vincent, brothers in law, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Her remains are reposing at Mc Brearty's Funeral Home on Tuesday from 12 to 9pm.

Removal on Wednesday morning at 10.30am to St Mary of the Visitation Church, Killybegs, for 11am Funeral Mass. Burial will take place afterwards in the local cemetery.

Family flowers only please, donations in lieu if desired to Killybegs Community Hospital care of any family member or McBrearty Funeral Directors.

Mary Early, Arranmore and Wicklow

The peaceful death has taken place in her daughter's home surrounded by her loving family, or Mary Early, Arranmore and Bray, Co Wicklow. 

Predeceased by her husband Manus and sister Bridie, sadly missed by her son's Hugh, Tony, Steven, daughter Marie, daughters-in-law Tara, Fran and Collette, son-in-law Colm. Dearly loved by her grandchildren Rían, Aodhàn, Ava, Jessica, Luke, Ella, Mya, Isla and Manus. Missed by her brother Phil, sisters Eileen and Peggy, nephews and nieces.

Funeral Mass on Tuesday at 12 noon in St Crone's Church, Aranmore.

Derek Wilkinson, Creeslough and Wicklow

The death has taken place of Derek Wilkinson, Creeslough, and Bray, County Wicklow.

Predeceased by his loving parents John and Isobel and infant brother Ernest, he will be sadly missed by his sister Hilary (McNutt), brother-in-law William, nieces Megan and Stacey and her fiancé Keith and grand niece Robyn, relatives and friends.

No wake, house private please.

His remains arrived at St John's Church Ballymore last evening to repose overnight. His Service of Thanksgiving will be held there on Tuesday at 2.30 pm with burial in the adjoining graveyard.

Family flowers only please. Donations in lieu, if desired to the Lake House Nursing Home, Comfort Fund, where Derek was so well cared for by the matron and staff of the Lake House Nursing Home, Portnablagh c/o James Harkin, Funeral Director.

John Joe Breslin, Ardara

The peaceful death has occurred of John Joe Breslin of Upper Monargan, Ardara, in Letterkenny University Hospital, surrounded by his family.

Predeceased by his parents Patrick and Brigid Breslin, he is deeply regretted and sadly missed by his sisters and brothers, Sally, Paul (Teresa), Maisie (Bobby), Brid, Michael (Mary), nieces and nephews, and all his extended family, neighbours and friends.

Reposal of his remains at the home of his sister Brid, Diver Upper, Monargan, Ardara F94D6D9.

Family time only please from 9.30pm and on the morning of the funeral.

Removal from there on Tuesday for 12 noon Requiem Mass in the Church of the Holy Family, Ardara, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.
