Man appears in court after overnight burglary at Letterkenny business

A man has appeared in court following an overnight burglary at a business premises in Letterkenny.

Chad Mitchell was brought before a special sitting of Letterkenny District Court.

Mitchell was charged with several offences on April 8 and April 9, 2024.

The 27-year-old, with an address at Westend Accommodation, West End, Bundoran, was charged in connection with a burglary at Donaghys Bar, Killylastin.

Mitchell was charged that, having entered the building as a trespasser, did attempt to commit an arrestable offence to wit theft of a bottle of whiskey therein.

The offence is contrary to Section 12 (1) (b) and (3) of the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud Offences) Act, 2001.

Mitchell was charged with stealing a bottle of whiskey from Tesco, Letterkenny on April 8, 2024.

Mitchell has also been charged with a public order offence and criminal damage to a toilet at Letterkenny Bus Station on April 8, 2024.

The accused, who was using crutches and wearing a protective boot on a leg when he appeared in court, was also charged with the possession of a quantity of cannabis.

Mitchell, who was represented by solicitor Mr Patsy Gallagher, was granted bail. Conditions of his bail include that Mitchell is to sign on at Ballyshannon Garda Station, is to commit no further offence and remain of sober habits.

Judge Alan Mitchell remanded the defendant on bail to appear again before the court on April 22, 2024 for directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
