After another busy weekend on the county's roads, Donegal gardai have warned that too many people 'are playing roulette with the lives of others'.

On Sunday night, gardai from Letterkenny Garda Station arrested a driver on suspicion of drug-driving.

The motorist tested positive for the presence of cocaine. Further tests are now awaited to determine the next course of action.

Also on Sunday night, officers from the Buncrana Roads Policing Unit detected a car travelling at 134km/h in a speed zone of 100km/h. A fixed charge penalty notice will be issued, gardai have said.

On Friday night, the Buncrana Roads Policing Unit detected a car travelling at 131km/h in a 100km/h speed zone.

The car was stopped and the driver was then arrested on suspicion of drink-driving. The driver will now receive a fixed charge penalty notice for the speeding offence, which will result in a €160 fine and three penalty points.

That person will face a possible Court appearance.

A Garda spokesperson said: “Too many people are taking risks on the roads and in doing so they are playing roulette with the lives of all other road users.

“Stop risking lives and start acting responsibly. It will be too late to change your ways when a tragedy does occur. Please don't wait until it is too late.”
