Sisters Ella and Deirdre McGrory from Culdaff will appear on the first episode of Ceol ón Earagail
Highlights from last year’s Earagail Arts Festival will be featured in a new television series kicking off on TG4.
Ceol ón Earagail will premier with the national Irish language broadcaster on Sunday, February 18, at 9.30pm.
The traditional music series combines highlights of concerts recorded in front of live audiences at An Grianán Theatre, Letterkenny, during the Earagail Arts Festival, with specially curated intimate performances recorded in various locations around Donegal in the summer of 2023.
This is the second year in a row that well-known production company ANIAR has covered the festival and includes a stellar line-up of musical talent, including Bríghde Chaimbeul with Aidan O’Rourke and Saileog Ní Cheannabháin, Lisa O’Neill, Flook, Fidil and many more.
Renowned young Irish traditional artists, Sibéal Ní Chasaide and Cathal Ó Curráin are also back on presenting duties for the seven-part series.
Hosting from Earagail Arts Festival, and other musical venues around the county, Sibéal and Cathal bring us the best of singers and musicians from across the island of Ireland and further afield.
The series opens in Episode 1 with a major act, Usher’s Island, which sees the coming together of five of the most influential and acclaimed names in traditional Irish music – Andy Irvine and Donal Lunny, both founding members of Planxty, Paddy Glackin a member of The Bothy Band, Mike McGoldrick member of Lúnasa and Capercaillie and John Doyle who played with Solas.
The legendary supergroup takes to the stage of An Grianán Theatre in Letterkenny while other great names perform in various locations around the county.
Glasgow’s Clare and Sheila Friel of the popular sister trio, The Friel Sisters, are in Dinny’in the Glens area, while South Armagh singer Piaras Ó Lorcáin is in Amharclann Ghaoth Dóbhair. Also appearing in the first episode, are young musicians, sisters Ella and Deirdre McGrory who hail from Culdaff on the Inishowen peninsula.
