Ann Coll was found dead in a flat in South Lanarkshire.

Police have launched a murder inquiry following the death in Scotland of a woman originally from Donegal.

Ann Coll was pronounced dead at the scene at an apartment in Rutherglen, South Lanarkshire, in the early hours of Friday.

The body of the 61-year-old, who hailed from Gweedore, was found with serious injuries and Police Scotland have launched a murder probe.

A cordon was immediately placed and officers conducted door-to-door visits in the Newfield Place area in a bid to piece together vital clues.

Detective Chief Inspector Lynsey Watters, of the major investigations team, said:  "Our thoughts are with Ann's family and we are providing them with support at this very difficult time.

"Our investigation into her murder is ongoing and I would urge anyone who can help to get in touch as soon as you can.

"I would ask anyone who believes they may have seen or heard anything which may be suspicious around the area to get in touch with us."
