Letterkenny to play host to 'A Rally for Palestine'

A Rally for Palestine will take place in Letterkenny on Saturday.

Thousands of people have taken to the streets of Dublin last week in a show of solidarity with Palestinians and against the actions of Israel in the Gaza Strip and similar movements have been taking place around the country.

The rally in Letterkenny was confirmed following on from a Genocide Lecture at ATU Donegal on Wednesday, where Jenny Duncan from the Bristol Palestine Centre gave a lecture on Palestine to the law students association.

Locally, it was decided to host regular Saturday midday ‘Witness for Palestine’ displays at the Tesco roundabout in Letterkenny. There will be Jewish-Israeli Holocaust survivor's exhibition of Palestinian Paintings opening at the Alley Theatre in Strabane 2:30 pm on Monday, October 30. This peace-building, cross-community, cross-border exhibition runs for the month of November.

At ATU, Ms Duncan discussed the propaganda war of outright lies, disinformation and misrepresentation presented by the Israeli regime in the UK media, as well as presenting the facts from the situation in Gaza, in relation to the Israeli response to Hamas attacks on October 7.

“By Tuesday, October 24, some 5,700 Palestinians had been murdered, 2,300 of these children and 1,200 being women. 96 Palestinians have been murdered in the West Bank. 1,500 Palestinians are missing, 830 children,” she said.

“The intense genocidal carpet-bombing of Palestinian men, women and children continues. Gaza is being starved to death. 97% of the water in Gaza is undrinkable.

She quoted Malcolm X: “If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing.”

Ms Duncan, from Ballymahon, Co Longford, discussed the previous victims of the NAKBA Genocide since 1988.

“Jewish State regime leaders have described Palestinians as "human animals", said they are going to "turn them (Palestinians) into rubble, and stated that the "...entire (Palestinian) nation...(is) responsible...". Banners in Israel say "Victory: Zero residents in Gaza". This hate speech is incitement to genocide by Jews. (Not all Israelis are Jews, some 20% are Palestinians with substandard second-class citizenship.)

She referred to her visit to Palestine some time ago after the 1994 massacre of 29 Palestinians in the Hebron Mosque by the American-Israeli Jewish terrorist Baruch Goldstein and showed a picture of the revered shrine nearby to this mass murderer that still exists to this day. This is just one example of a previous genocidal episode.

A ‘Rally for Palestine’ is planned for 1pm on Saturday, October 28, at An Grianan Theatre in Letterkenny.

Calls have been made for the Irish government to expel Israel’s ambassador to Ireland Dana Erlich. Adi Ophir Maoz, the deputy head of mission for the Israeli Embassy in Ireland, made a claim on X, formerly Twitter that: “Ireland wondering who funded those tunnels of terror? A short investigation direction – 1. Find a mirror. 2. Direct it to yourself. 3. Voilà.”

A spokesperson for the Israeli embassy said that the tweet has since been deleted because it “does not represent the official position of Israel or the Embassy”.
