Manorcunningham water woes set to be resolved

Councillor Donal 'Mandy' Kelly (inset) has welcomed news of the works in areas of Manorcunningham.

Residents in areas of Manorcunningham blighted by repeated water outages are set to see an end to their frustrations.

Funding has been secured for the installation of some 2.6km of new infrastructure to solve the frequent bursts and outages.

Uisce Éireann have confirmed the news to Councillor Donal ‘Mandy’ Kelly with work to begin in November and continue until next April.

Homeowners in Rossbracken, Raymoghey and Pluck have been hit with constant outages. Some residents were left without water on Christmas Day, St Patrick’s Day and Easter Sunday.

“I have been pushing hard over this period of time on behalf of the residents in these areas to have infrastructure that is not fit for purpose replaced,” Councillor Kelly told Donegal Live.

“Since I took my seat I have been contacted by residents on numerous occasions in the past two years. They were very concerned and frustrated and residents were at there wits end with ongoing water bursts and outages.

“I had contacted Irish water on each occasion to have these issues repaired as did the local residents.”

Councillors Kelly travelled to a conference in Sligo last weekend to highlight the issues with Uisce Éireann officials.

An application for funding was submitted in May and now the long-awaited works are to begin before the end of this year.

Councillor Kelly said: “I'm delighted to announce that Uisce Éireann has now secured funding to replace 2.6km of mains infrastructure in these effected areas of Manorcunnigham.

“This is absolutely brilliant news for the people of Manorcunnigham. I want to thank the people of Manorcunnigham for their support and help in playing a vital role in helping secure this funding. Very importantly, I want to thank the people affected for there patience.

“I’m delighted for them all that this is now progressing to the next level to having these ongoing issues resolved once and for all.”
