A County Councillor has described as ‘hard to believe’ at the absence of public lighting along a busy stretch of road in Letterkenny.

Fianna Fail Councillor Donal Coyle has asked that public lighting be provided on the R245 from the entrance at Kiltoy to Barnhill Park.

The public lighting stops close to the entrance for the Barnhill Park estate.

Councillor Coyle was told by Donegal County Council that there is no funding available for the provision of lights at the location.

In response to a motion tabled at the July meeting of the Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District, the Council said: “If funding opportunities become available this location can be considered for the provision of lighting at this location.

“As this location is outside the speed limits it will not qualify for many of the sources of funding that becomes available for public lighting.”

Councillor Gerry McMonagle, who seconded the motion, suggested that the Council work with ‘other agencies’ to get the works completed.
