Release without charge for two people arrested for alleged assault at Slieve League

Following a search involving the Irish Coast Guard, Rescue 118 and the Donegal Mountain Rescue team at Slieve League, the investigation is ongoing and the people arrested earlier were released this evening

Gardai have released two people in relation to an alleged assault at Slieve League.

A man in his 30s and a woman, who is aged in her 20s, were detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Garda stations in Letterkenny and Ballyshannon.

Following a search involving the Irish Coast Guard, Rescue 118 and the Donegal Mountain Rescue team at Slieve League, the investigation is ongoing and the people arrested earlier were released this evening, with a person believed to be still missing.

“Gardaí in Ballyshannon continue to investigate an incident that occurred in the Slieve League / Killybegs area in County Donegal between Saturday, 24th June and Sunday, 25th June,” reads a Gardara statement.

“The two people arrested in connection with this investigation were released without charge this evening. Public access to Slieve League remains closed to facilitate this ongoing investigation.

“Investigating Gardaí continue to appeal to any person who may have information in relation to this incident to contact them.

“Any road users who were travelling in the vicinity of Slieve League between Saturday evening, 24th June 2023 and Sunday evening, 25th June, and who may have camera footage (including dash cam) is asked to make this available to investigating Gardaí.”
