Cllr Donal Mandy Kelly enjoying the Donegal Africa Day celebrations in Letterkenny
Donegal Africa Day certainly made its mark in Letterkenny on Saturday as the community came together to celebrate the diversity of African cultures on our doorstep.
Africa Day represents an opportunity to acknowledge a diffuse, diverse, and important group of people from over 50 African countries, who enrich and make a valuable contribution to Irish society.
The event featured music, craft stalls, cultural performances, food tasting, games, a drumming workshop and a fantastic interaction between the hosts and a curious public.
The event was centred around An Grianán Theatre plaza between 12 noon and 5pm and has now established itself as one of the most exciting days in the local calendar.
This event was jointly hosted by both Donegal County Council and the Donegal Intercultural Platform.
This county has been enriched in so many ways by the presence of a vibrant African community and arts, culture, business, community development, sport and so much more have been strengthened by people of African origin or descent.
Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District mayor, Cllr Donal Mandy Kelly took part in the events and praised all involved in making it happen,
