People not using the correct traffic lanes at Lifford roundabout was raised by Cllr Gerry Crawford, at the monthly meeting of the May monthly meeting of the Lifford Stranorlar MD meeting this week.
He said that he had witnessed the situation himself in the previous week.
“When you are coming in from Strabane coming into Lifford and you need to go to Castlefin, if I am correct, the rules of the road would say left hand lane for first and second exits. So Castlefin left hand lane and Letterkenny, left hand lane,” he explained.
But what he saw “to say the least” was that people going to Letterkenny were using the right hand lane leading to both “congestion” and “temperament”.
“The other morning coming down from the former army camp direction, the left hand lane vehicle kept completely right over past the hospital, and the right hand one (vehicle) kept left to go down the middle road, so I think that it is very important that the road markings that were there are restored. There were markings there, but some people now are just taking up the middle position in the road to stay safe,” he added.
Claire McKeever of the Roads and Transport section said that she too, had observed the same situations occur, as that of Cllr Crawford.
She said: “I know exactly what you are talking about. There are people in both lanes and not sure exactly who has got the priority and certainly road marking would help to clear that up, so I can put a request in to the NRDO in relation to that.”
