A new private medical clinic in Letterkenny is offering patients a new service.
Letterkenny Medics, described as a private medical and aesthetics clinic, opened recently on the Port Road.
Letterkenny Medics is operated by Dr Ripu D. Singh and Dr Mohamed Elbiraier, who both worked at the Emergency Department in Letterkenny University Hospital.
“I worked in the Emergency Department for eight years and I saw what was happening,” said Dr Ripu.
“I also started to see what was happening in the community and also with the NoWDOC and GP services.
“Everyone is busy and everyone is working, but still the situation was out of control. We will bring a different service and provide a different service. It will be more efficient.”
Letterkenny Medics are opened from 10am-10pm seven days a week. Their 10pm closing time is to suit those who may be working and unable to see a doctor during the day.
Appointments can be made via the website www.letterkennymedics.ie and they also accept walk-in clients.
Letterkenny Medics offer patients a 30-minute consultation time. Blood tests can be referred in-house and services such as full cardiac screening, STI Clinic, 24-hour blood pressure and heart rate monitor, ECG blood test and the carrying out of minor surgeries are all offered.
Dr Mohamed explains that a Just Talk programme is there for people who are feeling concerned about their mental health.
“If you just want to talk, you can come into us,” he said. “We can give the right advice about where to go next.”
A weight management programme, with a follow-up service, is also on offer.
Dr Ripu Bahrain worked previously in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, India and finished studying in Romania before moving to Letterkenny.
“This will be more efficeient,” he said. “One lady came in on Sunday and she was waiting for two years on a small procedure. We did it here within 15 minutes.
“We can refer to public or private hospitals. We have Ireland's most advanced system for referrals.”
Via a contract with Healthwise, Letterkenny Medics also provide medication and administer IV antibiotics.
