NoWDOC service in Oldtown, Letterkenny
The NoWDOC service is set to move from Oldtown to another Letterkenny base. Efforts are ongoing by the Health Service Executive to find alternative location.
A rental for the current NoWDOC premises at Unit 1 Oldtown, Letterkenny has been in place since April 2005. However, a notice to quit the building was issued in December 2022 by the landlord’s solicitor to the Health Service Executive (HSE).
The matter was raised by Sinn Féin Councillor Gerry McMonagle at the Regional Health Forum West on Monday. He was informed that a date is not set for the move and it may take place within the next few months.
The Chief Officer for Community Healthcare Organisation in the north west region, Dermot Monaghan, said that on foot of current infection control advice which recommends a separation of clinical and administration areas, where possible, the option to deliver the clinical element of the service from the Errigal Hub is being progressed.
This location is located close to Letterkenny University Hospital and has the further advantage of optimising utilisation of available space making this a 24-hour building for clinical care. Planning is ongoing to progress this matter and will include engagement with relevant stakeholders, he said.
Identification of an alternative administrative hub for a number of HSE Services is ongoing which will include the nursing triage and administrative sections of the NoWDOC Service.
