Garda Roads Policing
Three motorists – one of whom was uninsured – were arrested in Letterkenny at the weekend for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Two drivers were arrested on suspicion of drug driving by officers from the Letterkenny Roads Policing Unit. One of these drivers had tested positive for cannabis and their car was seized for no insurance, tax or NCT.
The other driver tested positive for cocaine after being stopped for a speeding offence.
One driver was also arrested on suspicion of drink driving.
Gardai seized a third car as it was being driven by a learner driver who was driving while unaccompanied, had no L plates on display and did not have a valid NCT.
The Letterkenny Roads Policing Unit detected 15 vehicles travelling in excess of the legal speed limit over the weekend and fixed charge penalty notices have been issued to the drivers.
A Garda spokesperson said: “Please make responsible decisions when it comes to road safety. Never drive while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. Slow down. Please ensure also that your vehicle is in a roadworthy condition and that your relevant documents are in order.”
