Applications have been invited from communities to avail of a new €3 million fund
Communities across Donegal are in line for a share of €3,114,395 under a new fund that aims to support the development of community infrastructure and facilities.
The Communities Recognition Fund is being made available in recognition of the contribution being made by communities across the county in welcoming and hosting significant numbers of arrivals from Ukraine and other countries
Donegal County Council and the Donegal Local Community Development Committee (LCDC) are in charge of the scheme here and have invited Expressions of Interest from community groups for their share of the money.
The funding is specifically targeted at projects that are located in communities, towns and villages that are hosting the Beneficiaries of Temporary Protection and/or International Protection Applicants.
Further details and the application form are available at https://www.donegalcoco.ie/community/fundingforyourgroup/communityrecognitionfund2023/#d.en.33574
It also aims to support the development of facilities that will be used in the future by all members of the community. It is separate in its objectives and scope to any other public funding streams which aim to support the development of public service needs arising from the significant number of arrivals from Ukraine.
€50 million is available nationally and this is allocated between each local authority based on the number of new arrivals located there. On this basis, the allocation to County Donegal is €3,114,395.
The cash injection has been welcomed by the chairperson of Donegal LCDC, Cllr Niamh Kennedy.
“Donegal LCDC acknowledge the enormous contribution communities throughout the county have made in welcoming and hosting people coming to their areas who are beneficiaries of Temporary Protection and/or International Protection Applicants.
"We welcome this scheme, which will provide funding for developments that will benefit the entire community in recognition of the support they have shown to people from Ukraine and other countries who have come into their communities."
Closing date
The closing date for receipt of applications to the Scheme is 3pm on Monday, March 6, 2023.
