Peace has not yet broken out in a feud between two rival ice-cream vendors in Donegal.
Rivals Jim Chambers (62), of The Glebe, Letterkenny, and Stephen Cole (40), of Trentabuoy, Drumkeen each operate an ice cream van in Rathmullan.
Last February, the pair were given one year to ‘cool off’.
The men were both charged with public order offences. Both are charged with a breach of the peace at Rathmullan beach on July 19th, 2019.
The matter came before Falcarragh District Court this week.
Inspector Seamus McGonigle told the court that there are continuing issues between the pair.
“Peace has not yet broken out and issues continued over the summer season,” Inspector McGonigle said.
Previously, Mr Peter Nolan, Barrister for Chambers, said that difficulties arose ‘in tit-for-tat interference with one another’.
“Both of them need to learn to live together in the same business,” Mr Nolan said.
Inspector McGonigle said the matter is ‘ongoing’ and said there were concerns that the issue could ‘escalate’.
He said: “Once the sun sines, the problems arise.”
Judge Éiteáin Cunningham adjourned the matter until May 17 next.
“The court is anxious that the situation is monitored further,” Judge Cunningham said. “This is particularly so over the Easter period and that message should be sent out to both.”
