Homeowners in areas of Letterkenny are going up to five days a week without water.
People in the Bomany, Newmills, Conwall and Ran areas are ‘at their wits end’ over their water supply.
Councillor Donal ‘Mandy’ Kelly, the Letterkenny Milford MD Mayor, brought the issue to light at this month’s monthly MD meeting.
Councillor Kelly has called on a detailed report to be carried out by Irish Water on their nfrastructure on the reservoir and the water pipes in the affected areas.
“The quality of water is dire, even the colour of it” Councillor Kelly said.
“People here are constantly out of water and when they have water there is no water pressure.
“Irish water needs to be held responsible. It is shocking what is going on and Irish Water is getting away with it.”
A Zoom call took place recently between Councillors and Irish Water officials, but Councillor Kelly says that the problems of now must be sorted before future planning takes place.
“There are more areas than these that are facing problems,” he said.
“People are going four or five days a week with no water.
“I am sick and tired getting the same answer at every turn about, that the queries will be forwarded to Irish Water. This line does not work and it is a tick the box exercise. I am sick ringing them and getting nowhere. We need to demand a face-to-face meeting and hold them accountable.”
Councillor Ciaran Brogan backed Councillor Kelly’s motion and said that an appeal to Irish Water’s ‘best interests’ should be made.
“We should ask them why they operate as a sort of secret service,” Councillor Brogan said.
