A Letterkenny woman shocked her family with a surprise and emotional homecoming - over three years after she was last in the family home.

Leona Russell stunned her parents, Drew and Molly, who saw their daughter for the first time in 1,216 days.

After rocking up to the house at Derryveagh Avenue in Letterkenny, Leona nonchalantly wondered: ‘Hi, any chance for a cuppa tea, boys’.

The emotional reunion was captured on camera - as were a series of other surprise visits she paid upon her return.

Leona has been based in Perth since emigrating in November 2018, but did spent Christmas 2019 and New Year 2020 in Letterkenny.

After jetting off on January 6, 2020, Leona did get a surprise visit from a group of friends in March of that year, just before the Covid-19 lockdown.

Before moving Down Under, Leona played for Bonagee United and Letterkenny Gaels and she now plays for East Perth FC

In August, 2017, she played for the  Irish Banshees Australian Rules team who won the AFL International Cup in Australia.
