Amid fears that a loose window, now perilously hanging from the first floor of a derelict building in Letterkenny, could injure a pedestrian or damage a vehicle, property owners have been reminded that repair grants are available.

There is concern that the window pane, which has loosened and now in danger of falling, will collapse onto a passerby.

The building is located in the Lower Main Street area of Letterkenny, a busy area with pedestrians and traffic.

The Mayor of the Letterkenny Milford Municipal District, Councillor Donal ‘Mandy’ Kelly has reiterated the aim to address the dereliction issue in the area.

“We are working hard along with Sinead McCauley and the 2040 Regeneration team with future plans,” Councillor Kelly told Donegal Live.

“This is a vital part of Letterkenny Town that I'm eager to have revamped and back looking well again. I will continue to raise this issue going forward.

“Letterkenny is growing all the time so I feel its very important to have the whole town looking as good as possible. I recently launched the Letterkenny Tidy action plan for 2023 and part of that is Paint the Town 2023, which is a great initiative and this voluntary community group, like many others, do trojan work.”

Councillor Kelly says that owners of buildings such as this that grants are available to address such matters.

He said: “Should property owners require more Information feel free to contact myself as Mayor of theLetterkenny Milford Municipal District or the local authority Donegal County Council and all help and information can be provided if need be.”

Letterkenny is the only town in Donegal which qualifies for monies from the Urban Regeneration and Development Fund (URDF) and Donegal County Council has been invited to apply for money under the third round of the URDF with €130million allocated nationally.

A recent MD meeting heard confirmation which was described by Councillor Ciaran Brogan as a possible ‘game changer’ for Letterkenny.

Liam Ward, Director of Services with Donegal County Council has said that 'very significant work' has already been carried out in surveying derelict buildings in the town.
