The state of the road surface of main routes into Letterkenny have been described as 'terrible'.

The issue of the state of the N13 road between Lurgybrack and Manorcunningham has been raised by Councillor Donal Coyle.

The Fianna Fail Councillor told the latest meeting of the Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District that the road needs a complete overhaul.

“This is the main artery from Sligo to Letterkenny and from Sligo to Derry,” Councillor Coyle said. “The road has deteriorated to a terrible extent, especially since the last snow.

“There are ruts on the road coming into the Dry Arch roundabout and it's in a very poor condition. It's breaking up on a daily basis.

“Up towards Lurgybrack school, the road is also breaking up and it's the same out the dual carriageway, all the way to Manor.”

A motion on the issue from Councillor Coyle was seconded by Councillor Michael McBride, who said:“We can't afford a poor quality road surface there, especially along a national route.”

Donegal County Council has confirmed that 'necessary remedial actions' have been identified.

“Where possible, localised repairs will be carried out as soon as is practical,” the Council said in its reponse.

The local authority says that it will liaise with Transport Infrastructure Ireland should larger repair works be required.
