Figures show new home completions rise in Glenties but drop in Donegal MD

Most new dwellings built in Donegal so far in 2025 have been in Glenties

Latest Central Statistics Office (CSO) figures show that the Glenties Local Electoral Area has seen the most new residential dwellings completed in Donegal in 2025 up to date.

Whereas Glenties saw the most new residential dwellings completed in Donegal during the first nine months of 2025, Carndonagh saw the fewest completed, closely followed by Buncrana.

Across Donegal with all the Local Electoral Authorities combined, there was only a slight rise of eight more dwellings completed in the first three quarters of 2025, at 449 homes, compared to 441 homes at the same time period in 2024.

Donegal Municipal District saw a sharp fall in new homes built so far in 2025, at 29%, with 79 homes built in the first nine months of 2024, compared to just 56 this year. 

However, Glenties saw a rise of 38% in homes completed in the first nine months of the year, from 68 homes in 2024 to 94 homes in 2025.

Lifford-Stranorlar Municipal District had the second-highest amount of new homes built, at 84, followed by Letterkenny at 80.

Even though Carndonagh and Buncrana have seen more houses built in their areas this year compared to last, they still rank amongst the lowest in the county. 

So far in 2025, only 41 homes have been completed in Buncrana, and just 39 in Carndonagh.

Milford has seen a slight drop in new residential dwellings completed, from 52 in the opening three quarters of 2024 to 50 this year so far.
