Allen Wylie was the man behind the annual Wylie Tractor Run.
The death is being mourned of Allen Wylie, the man behind the hugely successful Wylie Tractor Run.
Mr Wylie passed away peacefully at his home at Drumany, Letterkenny, on Thursday. He was 81 years old.
In 2011, the first Wylie Tractor Run took place and the event has raised far in excess of €100,000 in the years since.
“Allen was a full time farmer and agri contractor based in Letterkenny, Co Donegal, but we know him for being an icon when it came to helping charities in need,” the Tractor Run Facebook page said in a tribute.
“A gentle, kind hearted and lovely man to talk to, Allen will be sadly missed by many in the farming circles but none more so than those that enjoyed a chat with him at events throughout Donegal and further afield.”
Mr Wylie is survived by his wife Jean, sons Trevor and Alan, daughters Linda and Amanda, grandchildren Gemma, Glenn, Nadine, Carla, Leah, TJ, Torey, Lexi, Calvin, Amber and great-grandchild Sienna, sisters Olive (USA), Marion Moore (Lurgybrack), Alice (Canada) and Ruth Gordon (Garryharry), brother Jay and a wide circle of family and friends.
His funeral takes place at 2pm on Sunday at Trinity Presbyterian Church, Upper Main Street, Letterkenny with interment afterwards in Gortlee Cemetery.
