The Amgen Irish open returns this week marking one of the premium events on the Irish sporting calendar.

Some of the best players in the Word will make the journey to County Kildare to compete in Ireland's showpiece golf tournament. 

When and where is it on?

The Amgen Irish Open will take place in the K Club in County Kildare from Thursday, September 4 to Sunday, September 7. it will be the third edition of the Irish open to be played at the K Club Golf Course.

The venue held its first Irish Open in 2016 before striking a deal with the European Tour for the event to be held in Kildare in 2023, 2025 and 2027.

The K Club in Straffan hosted the European Open for thirteen years, between 1995 to 2007, and even hosted the Ryder cup in 2006. However, since 2008, the Irish Open has been the only major golfing event played in the Republic of Ireland.

The Irish Open, an official DP World Tour event, holds a prize fund of €6 million offering the chance of a lucrative payday for those participating.

The tournament winner will receive €920,329 with second place going home with a consolation prize of €595,507.

How can I watch it?

The Irish Open will be televised on both RTÉ and Sky Sports Golf this year. Thursday's coverage will begin at 8am for both broadcasters with RTÉ 2 finishing at 1:05pm and Sky Sports at 1pm. Coverage of the tournament will then resume on each channel at 4pm. 

On Friday, RTÉ 2 and Sky Sports Golf will both have live coverage between 1pm and 6pm as players will learn who will make the cut and play on into the weekend for a chance at glory. 

Coverage of all the weekend action from the K Club will begin at 12:30pm on RTÉ 1 and Sky Sports Golf on Saturday and Sunday.

On Sunday, the live continue until the conclusion of the final round and the crowning of the 2025 winner.

Which golfers will be playing at the Irish Open?

There will be eleven Irish golfers playing the event this year headlined by three former winners. Rory McIlroy won the Irish Open when it was first held at the K Club in dominant fashion in 2016, Shane Lowry burst on the golfing scene as an amateur with his 2009 Irish Open win in County Louth Golf Club and Padraig Harrington won the tournament in 2007 in Adare Manor.

Other Irish golfers that will be playing this weekend include Seamus Power, Conor Purcell, Max Kennedy, Mark Power, Alex Maguire, Alex Moran, Tom McKibbin and amateur John Doyle who will all be hoping to make an impression in front of the home crowd. 

There's a very strong field of players this year at the K Club. Five-time major winner Brooks Koepka will be playing in the tournament for the first time. He will be joined by 2018 Open championship winner Francesco Molinari, 2018 Masters Champion Patrick Reed, 2016 Masters champion Danny Willett and Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald amongst others.

Are tickets still available? 

Yes, general admission tickets are still available for the first three days with Sunday completely sold out. Thursday's tickets cost €50, Friday's cost €60 and entry for the action on Saturday will set you back €65. 

Tickets for Wednesday's Pro-am event are also still available at €40 per person. 

Who's playing in the Pro-am event?

A host of celebrities, sports stars and personalities will showcase their golf skills at the K Club this Wednesday. 

Irish Rugby trio Johnny Sexton, Josh Van Der Flier and Dan Sheehan will tee off together in what should be a competitive battle between the trio. 

Ronan Maher, Paudie Clifford and David Clifford will be swapping GAA for golf for the day to participate in a group together with family bragging rights on the line for the Clifford's in Kildare. 

Tommy Bowe and RTÉ broadcaster Jacqui Hurley will also feature. The rock band 'The Stunning' will perform in the championship village in what should be a great day of entertainment before the serious business kicks off on Thursday.

How will the weather be during the tournament?

Rain is expected on Sunday but the rest of the days are mainly mixed with some sunny spells included with a chance of showers throughout the days. 

Temperatures should range between 12 and 18 degrees during playing hours over the four days. 

Will there be parking available?

Two complimentary car parks will be available to those travelling by car to the event. These will be situated on the north and south sides of the venue. Parking is free of charge and doesn't require any prior booking for attendees with the course reachable on foot from each car park. 

There will be no shuttle bus available from the car parks and strictly no parking onsite in the K Club itself. 

Directional road signage will be in place to direct you to the appropriate car park based on your approach via the N7 or M4 motorways. 

Is there alternative ways to travel?

For those who would like to travel by train, Expressway will be offering return bus services to the Irish Open from both Maynooth and Hazel Hatch train stations. 

Bus tickets can be purchased online prior to travelling and are priced at €15. 

If people are travelling by private coach, they will be asked to follow the signs to the south car park where there will be a dedicated drop off area before leaving as there will be no coach parking on site.
