Ryanair reunite Irish golfer with trophy left at boarding gate due to baggage rules PIC: rfegolf/X
Ryanair have agreed to reunite an Irish golfer with a trophy he was forced to leave behind at a Spanish airport due to their baggage rules.
Offaly native Joe Lyons was forced to leave his trophy behind because it would not fit in his or his wife's hand luggage after he won the Spanish Senior Men's Amateur title in Seville.
In frustration, Joe left the trophy behind and told staff to keep it. They informed him they would be throwing it in the bin.
Posting on X, Joe sarcastically said: "Thank you, Ryanair for refusing to allow me bring the Spanish Open Trophy home with me after a great week in Seville."
"I just think Ryanair should be called out for it," Joe is quoted as saying in the Irish Independent. He said he was so frustrated he ended up just walking away from staff at the desk and boarding the flight.
In an update on Monday evening, Joe said Ryanair have been in contact to say they have the trophy and are going to fly it to Ireland and back to him in his Galway home.
"All's well that ends well. Ryanair have just called me and said they are putting the trophy on a flight tonight and will courier it to Galway tomorrow! Thank you," Joe posted.
His followers were delighted with one saying: "That’s great news Joe. It’s amazing what social media can achieve. Well done again on a fantastic win. I’m sure your trusted caddy Vera played an important part."
