Gardaí give Bank Holiday warning after dozen Donegal arrests for driving offences

Drivers arrested for being under influence of alcohol or drugs
Gardaí have warned drivers to abide by the laws over the May Bank Holiday Weekend, following the arrest of 12 drivers in Donegal in the past week.
The dozen drivers were arrested for driving while under the influence, nine of whom were for alcohol, and three for drugs.
Gardaí urged drivers never to drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs, to slow down, and to wear their seatbelt, noting that the results of driving under the influence or at speed could be devastating.
A Gardaí statement said: “If you are going socialising, please arrange a lift home in advance, have a designated driver or get a taxi. Do not risk your own life and the lives of others by driving while under the influence.
“Keep your mobile phone well out of reach when driving so as to avoid being distracted. Keep your attention on the road at all times. If you feel tired at the wheel, pull over and have a coffee or just a quick break to stretch your legs.
“The roads are likely to be busy over the course of the weekend. Leave extra time for any journeys and slow down.
“Never take any type of unnecessary risks on the roads.
“We hope that you all have a lovely Bank Holiday weekend, and please stay safe whether on or off the roads.”
