Donegal supporters cheering on their team at Croke Park on Sunday
A Kerry GAA supporter who was at Croke Park on Sunday has expressed his gratitude for the sincerity of the Donegal fans.
John Griffin from Tralee wrote to DonegalLive to commend the “great supporters” of the Donegal team.
“I know it has been a very difficult weekend for Donegal, but I want to convey a message from The Kingdom which has been repeated by numerous people and Kerry supporters, in particular, following the match on Sunday,” he wrote.
“It was the exemplary way in which Donegal supporters behaved in Croke Park, what great supporters of their team they were and how gracious they were afterwards, wishing the Kerry supporters well.”

Kerry were appearing in their 63rd All-Ireland final, with Jack O’Connor masterminding his fifth success and their 39th victory. The Kingdom were most recently winners in 2022, when they overcame Galway and lost out to Dublin the following year.
“I have been in Croke Park on many occasions, many times when Kerry were beaten and always tried to congratulate our opponents’ supporters. I’m afraid not all counties’ supporters react that way but you could see it was genuine from Donegal.
“This Kerry team have experienced defeat on All-Ireland final day and I know the Donegal players though very disappointed now will learn from this experience and come back stronger. Best wishes, John Griffin, Tralee.”
