St Eunans GAA presented Donegal goalkeeper Shaun Patton with a memento to celebrate his 100th appearance for the county.

Patton’s club honoured him with the presentation after the Letterkenny man played his 100th Donegal game on Sunday. Donegal’s epic 3-26 to 0-15 win over Meath in the All-Ireland semi-final sent them into their first final since 2014.

Patton was described as “a top-class goalkeeper and a fantastic ambassador for both club and county” by St Eunans.

“Playing your 100th game for Donegal is a testament to your dedication to Donegal and the county jersey, to your skill and your ability,” said Michael Gibbons, Minor Board Chairman, who led the presentation.

He presented Patton with a piece of crystal “as a token of the immense pride” of the club in his success.

“You’ve inspired so many people, not just young players, not just Gaelic football but camogie and hurling,” Mr Gibbon said.

Mr Gibbons wished success to fellow St Eunans and Donegal footballers Caolan Ward, Niall O’Donnell, Shane O’Donnell and Ciarán Moore ahead of their final meeting with Kerry.

Patton said: “I have huge admiration for everybody involved in the club and the work that goes on behind the scenes. Look at the pitch we’re standing on and the facilities we have here are fantastic.

“Hopefully in two weeks’ time things go well and we can get back to the club season then and push for another county championship.”

Patton is the seventh St Eunans footballer to make at least 100 appearances for Donegal. He follows in the footsteps of Rory Kavanagh on 146, Noel McCole 123, John Hannigan 114, Seamus Hoare 107, Brendan Devenney reaching 104 and Mark Crossan 101.
