Monday will see Letterkenny & District GAA Primary Schools’ Games finals contested

The Letterkenny & District GAA Football Primary Schools’ Games finals are set to take place on Monday at O’Donnell Park, the home of St Eunan’s GAA club.

The Boys’ Plate/Bowl semi-finals will see Educate Together take on Gaelscoil Adhamháin, and Lurgyback NS face Scoil Naomh Fionán; with the Girls’ last four ties seeing Lurgybrack NS take on Glenswilly NS and then the clash of Scoil Naomh Fionán and Creeslough NS.

The semi-finals get underway at 11am. Winners meet in the Plate final with the Bowl final between the teams who lose out in the semi-finals, with both starting at 12:30pm. The semi-finals are 20 minutes straight in duration, with no half-time. Then the finals are two 15-minute halves with five minutes in-between, with matches starting and finishing on the hooter.

Then, in the Boys’ Cup/Shield semi-finals, from 11:20am, it’s Scoil Mhuire Derrybeg NS against Glenswilly NS, while Illustrin NS are due to play Scoil Colmcille; with the Girls’ competition seeing matches between Stranorlar NS and Gaelscoil Adhamháin, as well as Mhuire Gan Smal and Stramore NS. The winners of the semi-finals will progress to the Cup finals, with the beaten sides meeting for the Shield. Finals here start at 12:40pm.

Sponsored by Kevin Gallinagh at Letterkenny Tool Hire & Sales with the emphasis, in order, is on fun games first, competitiveness second and winning third. The group blitz days, for boys and girls, saw a total of 32 teams playing, with over 500 players in all. The referees on the day will be provided by students of Peter Devine, the St Eunan’s defender who teaches at St Eunan’s College.
