Important championship game for Donegal minors on Saturday in Ballyshannon

Donegal minors much too strong for Fermanagh in Donagh

A win for the Donegal Minors would put them top of the table

Donegal minors complete their group matches in the Ulster Championship this Saturday with a home game against Monaghan in Fr Tierney Park, Ballyshannon (12 noon), and after suffering their first defeat away to Down last weekend, this game is now a must-win encounter.

Donegal had opened their championship campaign with big wins over Fermanagh away and Tyrone at home but suffered defeat in Newry on Saturday last by 3-9 to 1-6.

It was just a bad day at the office with many wides, and Down went clear early on with Donegal chasing the game from then on.

Going into the last round of group games, Donegal are joint second in the table with Monaghan on four points with Tyrone (who have completed their four games) sitting on top with six points.

A win for Donegal on Saturday would put them on top as they have the head-to-head on Tyrone. A draw would leave them second in the group as they have a greater score average than Monaghan.

The top team in each group will progress to the Ulster MFC semi-finals and will have a home advantage.

The second and third-placed teams will crisscross and play each other in two quarter-finals with the second-placed teams having home advantage.

So a win for Donegal is vital as if they lose, they could end up in fourth place and out of the Tier 1 competition and drop down to a Tier 3 National competition, so Saturday’s game is very important.
