Referee’s report outcome awaited over Donegal’s U-20 game with Armagh

Donegal manager Shaun Paul Barrett says he stands by his player Daithi Gildea saying that the U-20 man did nothing wrong following a bust-up between Donegal and Armagh last weekend

Referee’s report outcome awaited over Donegal’s U-20 game with Armagh

Donegal U-20 team must await the outcome of the referee's report that is now in the hands of the Ulster Council

Donegal U-20s manager Shaun Paul Barrett said the county are currently waiting for the outcome of the referee’s report following a bust up towards the end of their championship win last week which saw one of his players reported by match official Diarmuid Moylan.

While substitute Daithi Gildea, who came on for Seanán Carr in the 49th minute in Donegal’s 1-6 to 0-7 point win over the Orchard County, wasn’t officially shown a red card or sent off, he was informed by the match referee Moylan that he will be reported following a short physical commotion between the teams at the end of the game.

“There’s a referee’s report that we are looking into currently,” said Barrett. “He (Gildea) definitely wasn’t sent off, but we were then notified after the match that the referee was reporting him. We have since looked at the video of the match and we are satisfied that Daithi did nothing wrong.

“We haven’t been notified as of yet with regards to the outcome but from our point of view we will be fully backing our player. It’s with the Ulster Council at the minute so we have to see what’s to come of it, but we would be confident that all will work out and be okay.”

Donegal will now play an Ulster U-20 semi-final next week following their win at the weekend in Letterkenny with KJ Molloy’s first-half goal proving to be pivotal to the outcome, on a day where scores were hard to come by.
