Local GAA clubs and University team clash in intense matches with Setanta emerging victorious in the 'A' final

Setanta take the win at the ATU Donegal Happy Camper hurling tournament

Setanta beat MacCumhaills to win the A final

The Annual ATU Donegal Happy Camper Hurling Tournament took place on Wednesday night in perfect weather conditions.

Along with the University team were the local GAA clubs, St Eunans, Letterkenny Gaels, Setanta and MacCumhaills.

For over three hours, ten very intense competitive group games were played out, none more so than the fiery St Eunans-Setanta 2- 2 draw. Even then it all came down to the last two games which decided the seeding for the finals.

MacCumhaills narrow win over ATU Donegal followed by Setanta defeating Letterkenny Gaels put both in the A final, with ATU Donegal and St Eunans meeting in the Shield decider.

First up in the B final, ATU Donegal took on St Eunans. In a very tight encounter, there was never more than one score between the sides. Coming into the last few seconds it looked like St Eunans had won it, only for ATU to score a goal in the last second to level the game.

Into extra-time, both sides had chances to win but it was a well-worked move by St Eunans that saw them fire in a goal to seal the win.

In the A Final Setanta took on MacCumhaills. The first half was a tight cagey affair with both defences on top, but Setanta then went ahead with a goal. MacCumhaills then dominated for a period, but the scores didn’t come.

With time nearly up, Setanta fired in two more goals in quick succession to seal the victory.
