Gardaí in Donegal have issued a warning to the public over leaving valuables in parked vehicles following several such thefts in the county in recent weeks.
Several thefts of phones and other valuable items have taken place in Letterkenny and Inishowen.
Gardaí have advised members of the public to always ensure that their vehicle is secure and locked when left unattended.
“Please do not leave valuables such as electronics, cash or jewellery in your vehicle,” gardaí said.
“Do not make life easy for opportunist thieves.”
Regarding thefts of phones in particular, gardai are advising the public to take note of their phone’s 15 digit mobile phone International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number.
This number should be kept somewhere safe in case a phone is lost or stolen.
By pressing *#06# on your phone keypad, the IMEI will appear on the screen.
This information will help us to return the phone in a timely manner if located.
