Abbott's diabetes care facility in Donegal was established in 2006. The facility has become a centre of excellence for developing and manufacturing innovative products that make glucose monitoring easier for people living with diabetes. The site has undergone significant expansion in recent years to support growing global demand.

Since 2019, employees at the Donegal facility have manufactured sensors for Abbott's FreeStyle Libre continuous glucose monitoring portfolio. The site also produces the worldwide supply of FreeStyle and FreeStyle Lite blood glucose test strips.

These technologies are helping transform the way millions of people around the world manage their diabetes through convenient glucose monitoring.

Employees also contribute their time through volunteer initiatives, including Garden improvements and painting projects for St. Agnes Day Centre, and supporting initiatives such as Meals on Wheels, Participation in the St. Vincent de Paul Giving Tree program, which provides donated gifts to families in need, and, as of 2026, Donegal’s charity of choice is Liquid Therapy, which provides inclusive and adaptive surf therapy programmes.
