Death notices for Donegal on Thursday morning

The following deaths have taken place:

Joe O'Donnell, Jersey and Gortahork

Fuair Joe Ó Domhnaill bás tobann i St Helier, Jersey, ar an Aoine 28ú Meitheamh 2025, aois 51.

The death has occurred suddenly on June 28 of Joe O’Donnell, St Helier, Jersey, and formerly of Ardsmore, Gortahork, Co. Donegal.

Predeceased by his loving parents Bernard and Gracie O’Donnell, he is sadly missed by his brothers David McNally and David O’Donnell, sisters Julie and Marianne O’Donnell, his nieces and nephews, Fionn, Naincí, Gracie, Úna, Sally, Maureen, Daphne and Oscar. Brothers- and sister-in-law Brian, John and Abi, extended family, neighbours, work colleagues and a wide circle of friends in Jersey and Donegal.

Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date.

John Strain, Dublin and Kilmacrennan

The death has taken place of John Strain, Artane, Dublin and formerly of Kilmacrennan. He passed peacefully surrounded by his loving family, in the care of St Francis Hospice, Raheny.

Predeceased by his sister Iris, John will be very sadly missed by his beloved wife Nancy, children John and Sinead, grandchildren Dylan and Hannah, daughter-in-law Gill, Sinead’s partner Gordon, beloved Sherlock family, the Strain and McCafferty families, Quinlan's, McGreal’s, Mahon’s and Wood families, nephews, nieces, extended family, friends and neighbours.

His remains are reposing in his residence on Friday from 5pm to 7pm.

Removal on Saturday morning to the Church of St Brendan, Coolock Village, arriving for Funeral Mass at 11am followed by burial in Glasnevin Cemetery at 1pm. The Mass can be viewed live here

Joe McGinley, Glencolmcille

The death has occurred of Joseph (Joe) McGinley Faugher, Glencolmcille. He passed away peacefully at Donegal Community Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

Predeceased by his father John Teague, his mother Catherine and brother Paul, Joe is sadly missed by his loving family, John (Liz), Marie, Sadie, Kathleen, Bríd, Michael (Maura), Jamie, (Anna), Connie (Noreen), Evelyn and Annie. Nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbours and friends.

His remains are reposing at his late residence, Faugher, Glencolmcille, F94WF93, on Thursday from 2pm to 9pm. Family time on the morning of the funeral please.

Funeral Mass on Friday at 11am in St Columba's Church, Cashel, Glencolmcille with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery. The Funeral Mass will be streamed here

Damien O'Brien, Killygordon and USA

The sudden and tragic death has occurred of Damien O'Brien, Huntington Beach, California and formerly from Stoneybatter, Killygordon.

Deeply regretted and sadly missed by his loving wife, Michelle, née O'Connor, adoring sons Oscar and Luke, his parents Patricia and Bernard, parents-in-law, Pat and Patricia O'Connor (Glenfin), sisters Colleen and Róisin, brothers Stephen and Bernard, sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, partners, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, colleagues and wide circle of friends.

Reposal of Damien's remains will repose at the home of his parents in Stoneybatter, Killygordon, F93 WP40, on Thursday from 1 pm until 9 pm. A shuttle bus will be in operation from Lafferty's Multi Crete yard to the wake house. Rosary at 9 pm with family time on both nights from after the Rosary and on the morning of the funeral.

Damien's Requiem Mass will take place on Friday at 12 noon in St Patrick's Church, Killygordon, F93 W2C2, with burial afterwards in Cill Mhuire Cemetery, Glenfin. Please note that the burial is strictly private for the O'Brien and O'Connor families only. 

Anne Weir, Meath and Ardara

The death has taken place of Anne Weir, née Herron, Clondalee, Hill of Down, Enfield, County Meath and formerly of Edergole, Ardara. She passed away peacefully in the excellent care of the nurses and staff of St Camillus Nursing Centre, Killucan, County Westmeath.

Predeceased by her husband Jimmy, deeply regretted by her brother Paddy, sister-in-law Bríd, brother-in-law Donal Gallagher, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, relatives and friends.

Her remains are reposing in St Camillus Nursing Centre Chapel, N91 VF51, Killucan on Thursday from 5pm concluding with prayers at 6pm.

Harry Stewart, Donegal Town

The death has occurred peacefully at Letterkenny University Hospital, of Harry Stewart, 258 St Joseph’s Avenue, Donegal Town.

Predeceased by his loving wife Agatha, sadly missed by son Mark, daughters Sonia, Karen, Aileen and Mary Jo and his brother Willie Joe, grandchildren, great-grand children, nephews, nieces, neighbours, friends & extended family.

House private on the morning of the funeral, please.

Removal to St Patrick’s Church, Donegal Town on Thursday at 10.30am for Mass at 11am, with burial immediately afterwards in Clar Graveyard.
