Death notices for Donegal on Monday morning, May 26

The following deaths have taken place:

- Pat Sweeney, Dublin and Loughanure

Bridget Ewing, Killygordon

The death has occurred at her late residence of Bridget Ewing, nee Scanlon, 29 The Curragh, Killygordon. Beloved wife of Bertie, much loved mother to Shaun (Jan), Sharon (PJ) Mark (Catherine), Fidelis (Tony), cherished grandmother to Matthew, Jack, Grace, Joshua, Aaron, Hannah, devoted sister of Francie, Patsy, Cicily, Peter, Eddie, Mary Ann, also the late Rose.

Deeply regretted and lovingly remembered by her husband, sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, grandchildren, nephews, nieces, extended family, neighbours, and friends.

Reposing at her late residence on Monday, May 26 at 7pm. Funeral leaving from there on Wednesday, May 28 at 10.20am for Requiem Mass in St Patrick’s Church, Crossroads, Killygordon at 11am. Interment in the adjoining churchyard.

Requiem Mass can be viewed live on https://youtube.com/@killygordonparish. The house is private to family, neighbours and close friends please.

Paddy McLaughlin, Culdaff

The peaceful death has occurred at his home surrounded by his loving family of Paddy McLaughlin Fildara, Templemoyle, Culdaff, F93 PH28.

Deeply regretted and will be sadly missed by his loving wife Frances, daughters, Elizabeth, Serena, sons, Seamus, Patrick, Niall, grandchildren, sons & daughters in laws, his brothers James, Eugene, John, Martin, sister Sadie, Mary, Goretti, Rita brothers and sisters in law and extended family and friends.

Predeceased by his beloved son Michael, brother Mícheál, sisters Bridget & Patricia. Paddy’s remains are now reposing at his home where everyone is welcome to pay their respects.

Funeral from there on Wednesday, May 28, at 1.30pm for 2pm funeral Mass in St Patrick’s Church, Aughaclay followed by interment in the adjoining graveyard. Family time from 10pm to 11am.

Terry Ponsonby, St Johnston

The sudden death has taken place in Spain of Terry Ponsonby, Ryelands House, Lismoghry, St. Johnston, Co Donegal, F93 H3F8 and proprietor of Friars Rest, Letterkenny.

Deeply missed by his loving wife Perpetua (Pep), son Mark and partner Rosarie, daughter Davina and husband Stephen, adoring grandchildren Rosa, Theo, Terry, Mark and Grace, brother Don, sisters Carmel and Anius, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, staff at Friars Rest and a wide circle of family, friends and neighbours.

Terry is predeceased by his parents Terry and Molly and brothers Paul and Ted.

Terry’s remains will be reposing at his late residence on Sunday, May 25 and Monday, May 26 from 12 noon until 10pm with Rosary both nights at 9pm.

Requiem Mass on Tuesday, May 27 at 11am at St. Eunan’s Cathedral, Letterkenny which can be viewed live on www.churchservices.tv/letterkenny.

Interment afterwards in New Leck Cemetery. House private on the morning of the funeral please.

Ciaràn Gillen, Carndonagh and Dublin

The sudden death has taken place of Ciarán Gillen, Church Road, Carndonagh, at his home in Dublin.

Predeceased by his father Patsy, he is sadly missed by his mother Mary, his brother Colm (Roísín), his sisters Dympna (Gene), Gráinne (Finbarr), Maeve (Keith), his nieces and nephews Eimear, Eoghan, Seán, Blaíthín and Daríona.

Ciarán’s remains will arrive at the Muff border at approx 8pm on Monday evening to continue to the family home at Church Road, Carndonagh, where everyone is welcome to pay their respects until 10pm and on Tuesday from 1pm to 9pm. The family home is private on the morning of the funeral.

Funeral from there on Wednesday at 11.30am for 12pm funeral Mass in The Church of the Sacred Heart, Carndonagh followed by interment in the adjoining graveyard. Funeral mass can be viewed live on www.carndonaghparish.com

Pat Sweeney, Dublin and Loughanure

The death has occurred of Patrick (Pat) Sweeney, late of New Ireland Road, Rialto and formerly of Loughanure, County Donegal. He passed away peacefully in the wonderful care of staff at St James’s Hospital with his son by his side.

Beloved husband of the late Carmel and loving father of Phil; sadly, missed by his loving son, sisters Vicky and Anne, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

His remains are reposing at the Brian McElroy Funeral Home, Crumlin Village on Sunday from 1pm to 3pm.

Funeral Mass on Monday at 11am in the Church of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary of Fatima, Rialto followed by cremation in The Garden Chapel, Mount Jerome Crematorium arriving for approximately 12.45pm.
