‘Shouting’ Belfast man fined for Donegal Town public order offence

Judge Éiteáin Cunningham issued €150 fine at Donegal District Court
A Belfast man has been fined €150 for a public order offence in Donegal Town.
Paul Craig, 29, of 6 Roden Pass, Belfast, was fined at Donegal District Court, held at Ballyshannon Courthouse, by Judge Éiteáin Cunningham, who gave him five months to pay the fine.
The defendant was not present at court, which Judge Cunningham said she had noted and was satisfied that the defendant had been served, and she was satisfied to proceed.
Judge Cunningham heard that on July 11, 2025, at Quay Street, Craig was present in a public place, intoxicated to such an extent as would give rise to a reasonable apprehension that you might endanger yourself or any other person in your vicinity.
Contrary to Section 4 of the Criminal Justice (Public Order) Act 1994, as amended by Section 22 of the Intoxicating Liquor Act 2008.
The court heard evidence “highly intoxicated and in an aggressive state” and was “arrested for his own safety” by Gardaí, whilst he was “consistently shouting.”
Craig had “calmed down at the Garda Station in Ballyshannon.”
Inspector Tony Byrne said the accused had no previous conviction in the court’s jurisdiction.
Judge Cunningham declared that she had found the facts proven, and convicted and fined Craig €150, allowing five months to pay.
