The latest HBO mystery series to break viewership records sees two accomplished Irish actresses take to set.
The fourth installment of the popular anthology series, True Detective: Night Country, has captured the attention of over 12.7 million viewers, surpassing the previous record set by Season 1, which held the title with 11.9 million viewers.
Having premiered on January 14, the show stars Cork’s Fiona Shaw, known for her roles in Killing Eve and the Harry Potter saga. She is cast alongside Dublin's Dervla Kirwan, from Ballykissangel and last seen acting in RTÉ drama, Smother.
The fourth season of the mystery thriller is set in the fictional town of Ennis, Alaska, and follows the investigation behind the disappearance of eight men from a research station.
The season also stars Jodie Foster (Taxi Driver, Silence of the Lambs) and professional boxer Kali Reis as Detectives Liz Danvers and Evangeline Navarro.
Dubbed by the New Yorker as "a feminist revision of a series", as the original season starred Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson as Louisiana State Police homicide detectives Rustin "Rust" Cohle and Martin "Marty" Hart, who investigate the murder of Dora Lange in 1995.
The sixth and final part of the fourth season, is due to air this Sunday on HBO, and can be found to stream in Ireland on Now TV.
