The Dunfanaghy Jazz and Blues Festival is set to make its return this September.

The popular event had run for 12 years before the pandemic impacted the live music and event sector.

The last festival was held in 2019 but it will take place again from Thursday, September 7 to Sunday, September 10.

In recent years the event featured many local, national and international acts with almost all the gigs being free to attend in local bars, cafes and hotels.

Organisers say that after the forced break they are looking forward to seeing one of the north-west's premier live music events return to the streets of Dunfanaghy for a host of live music featuring some of Ireland's best live acts.

A spokesperson for the organising committee said that they look forward to welcoming the return of the event after a few very difficult years for the entertainment sector.

“We recently met to see what we could do this year and thankfully, all the local hotels and publicans were onboard to see the festival go ahead in September.  We are still in the early stages of planning at the minute but we feel that the time is right to bring back the festival for 2023. We have all missed it and it is a great attraction for live music lovers that always brings great bands and crowds to the village.

“We could tell from the amount of inquiries we were getting that it was time to return, so we look forward to seeing all the music fans and bands that bring a brilliant atmosphere to the village each and every festival.”

The organisers said they are committed to seeing what is the best way to bring the festival back in September “and see the village rocking along once again”.“We wish to thank everyone for their patience and support and will keep everyone posted with more details in the coming months.”
