A social media user said: 'Honestly the last thing I needed to see today was Richard Bruton's nipples'

In Fine Gael's latest bid to promote a Dublin MEP candiate, Richard Bruton has turned heads by taking to a boat - shirtless - to describe the new Pay-Related Jobseeker's Benefit.

Shared by former Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar, the unconventional campaign video has sparked both amusement and confusion among viewers, as it makes waves across social media.

The video features Mr Bruton explaining the new Pay-Related Jobseeker's Benefit system while standing on a boat holding a life jacket.

Bare-chested and in swimming shorts, Mr Bruton explained: "Imagine this life jacket is the new Pay-Related Jobseeker's Benefit and the water is the risk of losing your job. The new social welfare system will keep me afloat."

Putting the life jacket, or "benefit" to the test, Mr Bruton proceeded to plunge into the water, resurfacing seconds later, adding, "there you have it."

"This video is abs-olutely fabulous," stated Mr Varadkar.

This effort was made as a promotional video to get voters thinking of electing Regina Doherty as Dublin MEP, after her work on the benefit scheme.

One social media user reacted to the video, saying: "Honestly I'm dying of secondhand embarrassment, they need to ask for their money back from whomever is running their campaign, this is pure cringe."

Another added: "Honestly the last thing I needed to see today was Richard Bruton's nipples."
