People are urged to help limit the spread by cocooning very young babies

A VIROLOGIST has discussed his warning to ‘go against’ HSE advice for RSV.

The HSE has warned that RSV and flu infections are circulating at very high levels.

People are urged to help limit the spread by cocooning very young babies, practising respiratory etiquette (covering coughs), and making sure all vaccines are up to date, including flu and Covid-19.

Dr Gearld Barry, Virologist has said he would like ‘more action’ taken for the rollout of vaccines for RSV.

“If you want to properly cocoon you would have to cocoon the whole house as anyone in theory can be carrying that virus and that could be quite challenging and I am not sure how it can be done. I would imagine it would strike panic into people and I don’t see it as a response to the virus, I would look to medical advances.”
