NCT testers issue failed test warning to drivers in counties flooded last week

The NCT service took to social media to warn drivers about the dangers after flooding last week
NCT testers have issued a warning to Irish drivers who travelled on flooded roads last week.
Drivers are being told that the effective of their brakes may have been effected if they drove through deep water during flooding last week. This could lead to a failed test but also poses serious danger to drivers on the roads.
Much of the country was hit with heavy rain last week with localised flooding in many counties.
The NCT service took to social media to warn drivers about the dangers.
They said: "If you have driven through deep water your brakes may be less effective. Make sure you:
"Test them at the first safe opportunity by pushing gently on the brake pedal to make sure that they work.
"If they are not fully effective, gently apply light pressure while driving slowly. This will
help to dry them out."
Meanwhile, drivers are also being told of other little known visual reasons your car could fail the NCT.
The NCT says: "Taking a few minutes to check some of the visual items below and ensuring they are all working in advance of your NCT could potentially save you valuable time and money."
One of the more obscure items that you could easily forget to check is the little bulbs on your registration plates. It is a legal requirement that your registration is visible at all times and if these bulbs aren't working, it cannot be seen at night.
Your car could fail its NCT if its registration plate lamps are "not working, faulty or not fitted; not white in colour; or if the lens is missing or broken." You can check these bulbs by turning your car on and checking the bulbs are on front and rear before the test.
