National: Watch a heartwarming moment as golfing legend makes a wish come true

WORLD-RENOWNED golfer Rory McIlroy took to the greens with a special partner today - a Make-A-Wish child who has long dreamt of playing a round of golf with his idol.

The Horizon Irish Open teed off this Wednesday at the K Club, and as official charity partners gave one boy the chance to meet his hero.

Seven-year-old Michael Horgan has been battling a brain tumor for some time, and having heard of his affection for Rory, the charity reached out to the sportsman to send a special message to the little boy, along with another message from Jordan Speith.

On the 9th green, Rory handed young Michael his own bespoke putter, and guided him through his shots. "He just wanted to do all he could to make it special," said a spokesperson.

Handing Michael a specially signed cover for his new club, Rory shared a touching moment with young Michael as he hugged him, and wished him well.
