Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs Micheál Martin met earlier today with Palestinian authorities to discuss a “path to peace”.

The Tánaiste met with Palestinian PM, Dr Mohammad Shtayyeh earlier this Thursday as part of his two-day visit to the Middle East.

“Very good to meet with Palestinian Authority PM Dr Mohammad Shtayyeh in Ramallah. I expressed my sympathy to the Palestinian people over civilian deaths in Gaza,” said Mr Martin.

He added: “We discussed the role the international community must play in the path to peace & Ireland’s support for the two State solution.”

A total of 23 Irish citizens left Gaza via the Rafah crossing on Wednesday, as Micheál Martin visited the region.

Since then, three more Irish citizens passed through the crossing, with more people expected to be allowed to cross it in the next two days.
