A man has been charged with murder after an Irish woman was found dead inside a home in Australia on Friday morning.

Emergency services were called to the residence on Ferntree Gully Road in Melbourne just before 10am on Friday and located an injured woman.

Victoria Police said the 30-year-old, identified locally as Tipperary woman Annmarie O’Reilly, was declared dead at the scene despite efforts to revive her.

Homicide Squad detectives arrested a 45-year-old Ferntree Gully man nearby and he has since appeared before court on one charge of murder.

It is alleged the victim and accused knew each other.

Ireland’s Department of Foreign Affairs acknowledged the case and said it was providing consular assistance.
