Several rail lines have been suspended today as Irish Rail have issued a statement to say there has been a tragic incident on the line and emergency services are currently at the scene.

The line affected is between Malahide and Skerries but there are major disruptions to Dundalk/Drogheda to Dublin Northern Commuter services along with Dublin to Belfast services.

In a statement on their website, Irish Rail said,

"Due to a tragic incident on the line at approximately 06:45hrs, and currently being attended by emergency services, the line is currently closed between Malahide and Skerries.

As a result:

  • Major disruption to Dundalk/Drogheda to Dublin Northern Commuter services - limited commuter service between Drogheda and Skerries only.  Dublin Bus accepting rail tickets.
  • Major disruption to Dublin to Belfast services - bus transfers being arranged, significant delays expected
  • DART services are not affected, and are operating a full schedule

"Iarnród Éireann apologises to customers for the inconvenience caused. Customers are advised that disruption is expected to continue for a number of hours."

Commuters who are affected are urged to avail of Dublin BUs services that will honour tickets in affected areas and to keep an eye on updates from Irish Rail although the disruptions are expected to last a number of hours.
